Mississippi and Puerto Rico have very close to the same population (3,000,000 or so). PR has a 93% literacy rate. Mississippi has 30% of its population reading at 5th grade level or below. Make PR a state and all boats will rise. The sad news is, Mississippi would sink to #51.

Could be worse, crusty.

Uh, you gonna eat that?

Our great American companies (there must be one, somewhere) are hereby ordered:

1. To pay their fair share of taxes.
2. To not pay their executives over 100 times what their lowest paid worker makes.
3. To cease using professional lobbying firms.
4. To actually send line workers to Washington for any lobbying efforts.

Well, that would be a start.

I am waiting.

Waiting, crusty.

Great news is that I saw 12 different pollinators in my garden yesterday, and a tiny green anole no more than 2 inches, nose to tail, that looked like it had just sprung from the egg.

Newbie doobie dooooo:

Uncle Joe claims that: “There’s an awful lot of good Republicans out there.”

We just haven’t fucking heard from them in a decade or so.

Vote McGrath, ditch McConnell.

Peace, rest, love, you and yours, crusty.

Capitalism has ruined Democracy

Trump seeks to be supreme in the White House, and nothing short of that will do. That is, there can be no one surrounding him who is smarter, meaner, or more venal. So, the White House has filled with room temp IQs, mean enablers of a bully, and fools who only worship the dollar as the preferred worldwide currency. Ending soon, ending soon. If corporations were people, we could put them in jail.

In addition to allowing their currency to sink in value, China has only to call the USA debt they hold in order to put the Trump Trade War to an abrupt death. And, as the world’s biggest debtor nation, this puts the USA in the position of being Donald “Con Man” Trump’s SEVENTH bankruptcy. Seven. Count em. Just sayin. The markets, to which Trump loves to point, will soon be his downfall (and everyone else’s who have chosen to invest). Hang on, gonna be a bumpy ride.

Finally, if we make Puerto Rico a state (at last), then Mississippi can be number 51 instead of 50. Anything for a change!!

Wonder when Ken Cuccinelli’s family emigrated. Hmmmmmm.

Bumpy ride, fasten seat belts, crusty.

Correction: Final figure on assisted living and 24-hour sitters tab is $15,200 per month. Did I say fasten seat belt?

I have just learned that combining assisted living and 24-hour “sitter” costs run in excess of $14k per month, and that is Down South where the livin is easy. The cost of aging in American is a crime against the aged (who should be some of our most valuable natural resources). This is an “estate tax” that will eat the heart out of any family.

When I did only volunteer work while caring for my parents, I looked at the numbers and realized that the best I could hope for was a retirement that would keep me moving as long as I was able to move (or felt like moving). When it hurts too much to get out of bed, I am going to have to find another way out, and it started with pre-paying for a direct cremation. If you have not yet made your “arrangements” I suggest that you do so.

Will try to find something more uplifting for other posts, crusty.

Yarn stash exceeds life expectancy

Materially blessed, I am thinking more and more in terms of moving on in my life, and shedding many of the possessions I have acquired. Now, my junk is junk no doubt, valuable only to me, but I am scheming to see if I can get others to adopt my junk. We shall see how that goes.

Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy (STABLE) is one way of saying it, if you are a knitter (which I am not). STABLE applies to anything. Just ask the guy who lives in hurricane country about a stash of canned goods, themselves supposed to be stable, which exploded over extended absences and vulcanized themselves to kitchen shelves. Or the sundry nails, screws, and other fasteners that seemingly get stashed in the most convenient places (at the time), and then only resurface after more fasteners have been purchased because the ones needed could not be found. Ah, the other cutting edge of privilege and prosperity.

Gun laws are in the news again, and the folks who want to ban assault rifles are those who think that our well-regulated militia will never show up at their door, demanding whatever that militia might want at the time. Part of our democracy is the ability to stand up to a too-strong State. Universal background checks are a must, but disarming the public is not in the public’s best interest. Look up how many civilian guns there are in, for instance, Russia and Syria. I will leave the rest of the reasoning to you.

Speaking of the news, Mississippi just underwent yet another Jubilation T. Cornpone event when ICE agents swarmed illegal employers and swept up undocumented workers. Mark your calendars, and be sure to observe PredjudICE Day next August 7th. We could make a thing of it and really drag out all the old prejudices, dust them off, and add them to any new prejudices we have managed to acquire during the next year. With Trump in charge, you know the list will be long.

Most ironic quote of the day: “We wouldn’t want a crazy person…” Donnie “Douche Nozzle” Trump, AKA Donnie “Batshit” Trump

The nicest thing I have said about myself recently: Well, you have heard of a ne’er do well? I take pride in being a half do well.

Doing half well here, crusty.
